Al-Raqqa - SMART
An explosive device killed two Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members and injured another in the al-Tawasouiah neighborhood in the al-Raqqa city center, Northeastern Syria.
The SDF is mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.
On Tuesday, a source from the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration reported to SMART that an explosive device targeted an SDF vehicle, killing two members and injuring one other. The source added that SDF and Asayish members were deployed in the al-Raqqa main roads.
The source added that the SDF arrested 12 young men from the neighborhood, as the arrest campaign targeted the al-Fardous neighborhood as well.
The source elaborated that the arrest campaign targeted the al-Mansurah and Hneda towns west of the city, in addition to the al-Samrah and al-Hamrat towns east of the city. The source said that the SDF arrested 25 people from these towns, accusing them of affiliating with the Islamic State (IS), adding that about 12 SDF vehicle headed towards south of the city of al-Raqqa, coinciding with helicopters flying over the area.
Earlier, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) arrested four people, including a woman, in the city of la-Raqqa.
The SDF and the YPG frequently arrest people in the Kurdish Autonomous Administration-controlled areas in Northeastern Syria, for compulsory recruitment or for charges of affiliating with the IS.
