SDF issues statement to pursue and eliminate IS cells in al-Hasakah
Al-Hasakah - SMART
On Friday, the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued a statement to launch a campaign to pursue the Islamic State (IS) cells in the al-Hasakah governorate, Northeastern Syria.
The SDF is mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.
The statement said that the SDF launched a Counter-Terrorism campaign to pursue IS cells, in coordination with the International Coalition forces and the Iraqi Army in Syria's Eastern Badia along the Khabur River, 38 kilometers northwest of al-Hasakah, near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
On Mar. 25, 2019, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in Northeastern Syria called on the international community to establish an international court to prosecute IS detainees in its prisons.
The SDF and the Autonomous Administration's security forces repeatedly arrest people from its controlled areas on various charges, such as communicating with the Free Syrian Army or dealing and belonging to the IS.
