Al-Hasakah - SMART

On Monday, loyalists of the Syrian government blocked passage of a United States military patrol in the city of Qamishli, al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria.

Media sources from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported to SMART that people loyal to the Syrian government blocked the road to the village of Fas al-Kubra of the al-Qahtaniah area, forcing a US military patrol to retreat.

The sources added that the people burned crops in farmlands on the sides of the road, in addition to tires in order to prevent the passage of the patrol.

Earlier, Syrian government forces embers and people blocked the passage of a US patrol in the village of al-Dardarah near the town of Tal Tamr, 40 kilometers north of al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria.

The US forces intensified their patrols in the area following a tension that rose between a US patrol and a Russian military convoy on the perimeter of Qamishli.

On Oct. 22, 2019, Russia and Turkey agreed to withdraw the SDF from the Safe Zone in Syria and to deploy joint patrols in the area, after the agreement Turkey announced the cessation of the military operation launched against the SDF on Oct. 9, 2019. During the operation, Turkey gained control of the cities of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn, in addition to dozens of villages in the governorates of al-Hasakah and al-Raqqa.
