Al-Raqqa - SMART
An explosive device killed a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and injured four others, two of them received critical injuries, in the Haws area, 65 kilometers east of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.
The SDF is mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.
A medical source reported to SMART that the explosive device targeted a SDF vehicle on the road of the Haws area, killing one of SDF members and injuring four others. The wounded were transferred to the Military Hospital in the city of al-Raqqa for treatment.
On Jan. 26, 2020, an explosive device planted by unknown persons exploded in the Ayn Issa area, 49 kilometers north of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, killing a SDF member and injuring others.
Since last year, shootings and explosions against the SDF and security forces of the Autonomous Administration have become frequent, killing and injuring people, most of them civilians. The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for some of the attacks.
The Kurdish People's Protection Units and the SDF repeatedly arrest young men in Kurdish Autonomous Administration-controlled areas, either to enlist them into compulsory recruitment in the SDF ranks or on charges of affiliating with the IS.
