Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Thursday, military sources reported to SMART that an explosive device killed two members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

The SDF is mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.

The source said that the explosive device killed two SDF members and injured three others near the village of al-Karamah (27 kilometers east of al-Raqqa). The explosive device targeted SDF military vehicle while it was passing by the road to the city of al-Darbasiyah. The device was planted inside a rubber tire on the roadside.

The source added that the SDF members arrested two young men who were passing near the explosion.

Earlier, members of the Asayish forces of the SDF arrested a woman at one of their checkpoints in the Ayn Issa area (49 kilometers north of al-Raqqa), on charges of her father's affiliation with the Syrian National Army.

On June 24, 2020, an explosive device killed a member of the SDF and injured four others, two of them received critical injuries, in the Haws area, 65 kilometers east of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

The SDF and the Autonomous Administration security forces constantly arrest people from their controlled areas for not possessing an expatriate card and forging papers or on charges of dealing with Turkey and affiliating with the Islamic State.
