Unknown persons kill SDF members after targeting their checkpoint east of Deir al-Zor

On Thursday night, unknown persons killed three members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and injured four others after targeting their checkpoint near the city of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.
The SDF is mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.
A military source reported to SMART that unknown persons targeted a checkpoint for the Kurdish People's Protection Units near the town of al-Susah (10 kilometers northeast of al-Bukamal). The source stated that the attack killed three SDF members and injured four others. The wounded were transferred to a hospital In the town of Hajin (28 kilometers northwest of al-Bukamal).
The source said that the SDF imposed a security cordon on the town of al-Susah, arrested more than 10 young men, and removed the checkpoint that was targeted.
On May 21, 2020, the SDF turned a school in the town of al-Susah (100 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor) into a military headquarters under the pretext of fighting the Islamic State.
On June 24, 2020, dozens of people demonstrated in the town of Abu Hamam (75 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor) against the SDF, demanding better services.
On May 16, 2020, the SDF arrested two teachers after raiding their house in the town of Gharanij (90 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor) as they filed a complaint to the Kurdish Autonomous Administration about turning a school in the town to a military headquarters.
