Explosive device kills two YPG members in al-Raqqa city
Al-Raqqa - SMART
On Sunday, an explosive device, planted by unknown persons, killed two members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.
A medical source reported to SMART that the device targeted a YPG military vehicle near the Scientific Research building in al-Raqqa, on the al-Raqqa-Aleppo highway, killing two YPG members, who died while they were transported to the al-Raqqa Military Hospital.
The source added that the YPG blocked the highway while they transported the members and installed a checkpoint near the explosion location, searching all passing cars and asking for identification documents.
On Dec. 31, 2019, a similar incident killed three YPG members and injured another on the road between the city of al-Tabqah and the village of al-Jerniah, 70 kilometers northwest of al-Raqqa, following another incident that killed and injured six Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members near the village of Hos.
Over the current year, shooting, explosive device, and car bomb incidents became frequent the SDF-controlled areas in Northeastern Syria. The incidents targeted SDF members and security personnel of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration, killing and injuring people, most of them civilians. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for several explosions and the rest were carried out by unknown persons.
