Deir al-Zor - SMART
On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) detained three people in the town of al-Shahail, east of the city of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, accusing them of affiliating with the Islamic State (IS).
The SDF are mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF is supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.
A source from the SDF reported to SMART that SDF members imposed a curfew on the area and closed all its entrances with the support of US-led International Coalition warplanes, then they stormed the town and arrested a veterinarian and two of his sons.
The source added that this is the second time that the veterinarian has been arrested by the SDF without having a proven charge against him.
On Mar. 10, 2020 the SDF detained two people in the city of al-Basira, with cover from the International Coalition warplanes. The SDF continue to pursue young men in the Deir al-Zor Governorate on charges of affiliating with the IS, or other charges.
