Idlib - SMART

On Monday, the National Liberation Front (NLF) of the Syrian National Army (SNA) announced repelling Syrian government forces' attempt to infiltrate west of the city of Kafr Nubl near Idlib, Northern Syria.

The spokesman for the NLF, Captain Naji Mustafa, reported to SMART that on Sunday night, NLF fighters repelled a Syrian government forces' attempt to infiltrate near the village of Fleifel, 38 kilometers south of Idlib, west of Kafr Nubl.

Mustafa added that the clashes between the two parties caused losses to the Syrian government forces, as the NLF targeted them with light and heavy machine guns. Mustafa did not mention any losses among the NLF faction.

Mustafa stated that the Syrian government forces targeted the villages of Khirbat al-Naqus in the al-Ghab Plain west of Hama, and Fatterah south of Idlib, with heavy artillery.

On June 15, 2020, the NLF observed remobilizations of the Syrian government forces and their allied militias on frontlines of the southern Idlib countryside, Northern Syria. Free Syrian Army factions announced preventing civilians from entering their controlled areas in the villages of the al-Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, Northern Syria, as they are considered military zones.

On June 8, 2020, Russian warplanes bombed towns and villages of the al-Zawiya Mountain, killing two civilians and injuring three others. On Mar. 5, 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Idlib governorate; the agreement entered into force on Mar. 6, 2020 at 00:01.

Earlier, the Syrian government forces and loyalist militias, supported by Russia, launched a ground military attack on the southern and eastern countryside of Idlib and the southern and western countryside of Aleppo. The Syrian government gained control of dozens of villages and towns in the region, after intensified shelling. The shelling killed and injured hundreds of civilians, and forced hundreds of thousands to displace.
