Turkey – SMART

On Tuesday, the Russian military said that they will respond to any possible strike by the United States in Syria.

A Russian news agency reported that Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, said: "Russia will respond to a U.S. strike in Syria if the lives of Russian servicemen were to be threatened."

These statements come only a day after the US Envoy to UN Nikky Haley threatened to strike Damascus in case of chemical weapons misuse in Syria.

Since last February, the loyalist forces backed up by Russia, have launched an unprecedented military campaign in Eastern Ghouta, killing and injuring thousands of civilians amidst international condemnation.

On Monday, Haley told the Security Council: "When the international community consistently fails to act, there are times when states are compelled to take their own action," she added: "It is not the path we prefer, but it is a path we have demonstrated we will take, and we are prepared to take again." According to Reuters.

Earlier, the USA targeted the Shayrat loyalist military airport in Syria, stating that the warplanes that bombed Khan Sheikoun in Idlib with toxic gases last April, had been launched from there.
