Idlib, SMART

The local council of Maarat al-Nu’man city (30 kilometers south of Idlib) said that they are ready to receive internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Eastern Ghouta according to available possibilities. The council also condemned the systematic and doubtful absence of international organizations before public violations the Syrian government is committing against the IDPs.

The council said in a statement seen by SMART that they decry the inhumane war crimes being committed by Syrian government forces in Ghouta.

The council also decried what they called the systematic and doubtful absence of international organizations, United Nations, and Human Rights organizations before acts by the Syrian government against IDPs, which also contradict present laws and international pacts.

The statement held the international community, UN, Security Council, and all international organizations responsible for protecting the IDPs, and ensuring them their human rights.

Earlier, activists circulated a video of Muhammad Qabnad, a member of the Syrian government parliament, asking IDPs to cheer for President Bashar al-Assad in return for some water and food. Syrian government forces arrested 150 youths after seizing control of Saqba city and forced them to join military service.

Russian and Iranian backed- Syrian government forces have launched an intensified military campaign in Eastern Ghouta. Hundreds of airstrikes and rocket bombings have hit the area. Syrian government forces have also bombed Ghouta, using  toxic gases, napalm and phosphor bombs, consequently killing hundreds of civilians and displacing thousands of others, despite the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2401, which demands a ceasefire in the area.
