Homs - SMART

The clan council and the civil administration of Rikban camp, near the border with Jordan, has dissolved the free police there because of its attack on (and subsequent obstruction to the work of) the court.

In a statement, the leaders of military factions (ordered by free police leaders) reportedly raided the Justice Courthouse using medium-range weapons, and took a someone hostage, thereby hindering the judiciary's work.

The statement further called for holding the offending members accountable, and of being suspicious of their activities. It also called for the formation of a new "police force" serving the court.

The court was formed in early March. It derived its executive force from the free police and the military factions, who all signed a memorandum of agreement. This memorandum includes that the factions must support the court in case of need, and recognises the Ahrar Clan Army as a legitimate military force extending its influence over the Rikban camp.
