Aleppo - SMART

The head of the educational office in the local council of the al-Bab city in Aleppo, Northern Syria, Fawzi al-Sayeh, said that they contracted with the Turkish government’s Harran University to open a branch of the university, which accommodates hundreds of students and contains five departments.

Al-Sayeh told SMART that the university would initially include the departments of mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, and science. He added that it accommodates hundreds of students, expecting it to cover in the first year of study about 500 students.

He said, "In the next two years we will open the departments of the economy, media, business administration and education, and then the medical departments."

Al-Sayeh explained that the University would accept students who have a high school diploma after a differentiation. He stressed that the University’s acceptance would not only include graduates of the current school year, but also it will include graduates from previous years.

Al-Sayeh stressed that it’s better for students who passed the test "Alioz" to be accepted. Alioz is a test of the competencies, abilities and multiple skills of the student. He noted that the test would be in several periods of time in the city of al-Bab. The test will also enable the student to enter scientific branches that "he may not be able to enter if he does not receive the certificate of the test."

Al-Sayeh noted that if there are large numbers of students in the first and second years of the University, students of third and fourth years can continue to study at the Harran University in Turkey. He added, "Once the student is admitted to the university, that will also facilitate his entry to Turkey to complete his education there."

Al-Sayeh confirmed that they are working on an agreement for university students who dropped out of education. He also noted that first-year students who dropped out could register at the university and restudy the field of study they wish. As for students of the current year, we will contract with universities to complete their education.

Weeks ago, construction of the university began. Turkish officials, along with local officials at the al-Bab city, visited the university and looked at the construction.
