Daraa - SMART

On Sunday, the Syrian government forces bombed a Civil Defense fire engine in the city of Busr al-Harir, 33 kilometers northeast of Daraa, Southern Syria.

Amer Abazid, the manager of the Civil Defense media office in Daraa, reported that a direct artillery and mortar shelling hit a Civil Defense fire engine, destroying it. Abazid reported no injuries.

Abazid noted that the Syrian government forces target Civil Defense staff on a regular basis in the governorate of Daraa.

In the past days days, Russian and Syrian government forces have intensified their bombing of the city of Busr al-Harir, forcing its entire population to flee. On Sunday, Russian warplanes bombed the city 20 times amidst Syrian government artillery and rocket shelling.

A week ago, the Syrian government forces launched a military campaign in Eastern Daraa and Western Quneitra amidst bombings using different kinds of arsenal. The bombings killed and injured dozens of civilians, including children. The bombings destroyed 40 percent of the city of al-Hirak and 60 percent of the town of al-Maliha al-Sharqiya, and displaced tens of thousands of civilians.

The Syrian government forces sent reinforcements to start a military campaign against Daraa, which is included in the de-escalation zone agreed upon by Russia, Jordan and the United States. On Sunday, the Free Syrian Army said that the U.S. informed them that Washington will not participate in the campaign against the Syrian government forces.
