Daraa, SMART

On Thursday, the Islamic State affiliated-Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army seized control over the town of Heit, 23 kilometers west of Daraa, Southern Syria, following intensified bombings.

Local activists posted on social media that Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army's seizure of the town came following an agreement with the opposition's military factions, "Repel the Tyrants Operations Room". The agreement includes the evacuation of civilians and fighters from the town, and for the latter to leave their heavy weapons in the town.

The activists reported that the Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army tightened the siege on the town after seizing control over the Khirbat Yubila on Wednesday.

An official of the town's military council, who introduced himself as Abu Qutadah, reported that 5,000 forcibly displaced people headed for the villages of Zaizon and Amouria, which are controlled by the Free Syrian Army (FSA). However, the Syrian government forces control border outposts on the outskirts of these villages.

On Monday, Russia demanded that the FSA hands over its strategic hills in the Western Daraa countryside to the Syrian government forces, as the hills overlook the al-Yarmouk basin area controlled by the Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army.

The Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army intensified attacks on the town of Heit and its perimeter. On Tuesday, the Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army exploded a car bomb at the Zaizon company base, which is adjacent to Heit. The explosion killed 20 people, including civilians, FSA fighters, and members of the Syrian government forces.
