Daraa - SMART

Documentation from the Martyrs Office in Daraa reveals the killing of 300 people in Daraa, Southern Syria, in July 2018.

The office said that 227 civilians from Daraa, including 39 women, 50 children, one infant and 77 men, were killed, in addition to 60 people who were tortured to death and 74 opposition factions fighters.

The office said that these statistics include the people from Daraa who died inside and outside the governorate, adding that 26 people were killed by the Syrian government forces' warplanes, 35 people by Russian warplanes and 46 people by artillery shelling. The office said that the statistics do not include the Islamic State members who were killed in the al-Yarmouk area.

On Aug 2, 2018, the Syrian government forces seized total control of the al-Yarmouk area, after clashes and intensified bombings on towns and villages in the area controlled by the Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army, which is accused of pledging allegiance to ISIS.

The office also said that 67 people from Daraa were killed in clashes with the Syrian government forces, 31 people were killed by explosive barrels from Syrian government forces' helicopters, 17 were killed by an explosive device and mine explosions and 14 were executed in the field. Car bombs killed other two people, and the Turkish Army killed another person; the office did not mention the location of the last person's killing.

The office pointed out that this month's numbers were high because they include the people from Daraa who were tortured to death in Syrian government prisons.

Recently, the Syrian government delivered the names of 5,000 detainees, who were killed in field executions or tortured to death in Syrian government prisons, to the detainees' relatives. The Syrian government is still issuing lists of detainees killed in prisons.
