Deir ez-Zor – SMART

On Thursday, Islamic State (IS) members attacked the Afghan Fatimid Brigade militia, which is backed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in the governorate of Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria.

Activists told SMART that the IS attack killed a member of the Fatimid militia and wounded two others at dawn in the town of Hamdan east of Deir ez-Zor.

The activists noted that the two parties clashed without additional information about IS losses.

Earlier, a leader in the militia said that 2,000 Afghan Shiites have been killed and 8,000 injured during five years of clashes with the Fatimid Brigade and the Syrian government and Iranian militias.

The IS attack came a day after an Iranian militia member was killed in clashes with the National Defense of the Syrian government forces in the city of Albukamal in Deir ez-Zor, where Iranian, Iraqi and Lebanese sectarian militias have spread.
