Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Monday, the Initial Response Team (IRT) pulled seven bodies out from the rubble of destroyed buildings in the city of al-Raqqa, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in Northeastern Syria.

A source that witnessed the exhumation process told SMART that the IRT pulled the body of a civilian out behind the al-Fawaz mosque on the Tal Abyad Street in the middle of the city. The IRT also pulled two bodies out from the rubble of destroyed houses in the al-Badou neighborhood.

The IRT also pulled four bodies out from the rubble in the Kahraba district north of the city center.

Activists hold the International Coalition and SDF responsible for the killing of hundreds of civilians in al-Raqqa during the intense and indiscriminate bombing of the battle against the Islamic State for control of the city. The IS also killed others in explosions during the battle.

The Coalition has recently admitted to killing 1,059 civilians during airstrikes on Syria and Iraq from August 2014 until the end of June 2018. Mass graves for people killed by the IS were also discovered.
