Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Wednesday, the women from the al-Suwayda governorate, kidnapped by the Islamic State (IS), sent new video to the negotiation commission, confirming they are safe. Local activists published the video on their Facebook accounts.

The video showed women and children sitting in a room, as activists said that those are the kidnapped women and children. One of the abducted women said that they are all in a good health situation and that no one is hurt. The kidnapped woman also said that the Syrian government and Russia are not attempting to release them.

In the same video, which the kidnapped woman said it was filmed on Tuesday evening, the woman appealed to release them quickly.

The activists said that the IS sent the video to the official negotiation commission, as the negotiation with the IS failed for the fifth time.

The IS demanded to include Russia as a guarantor for any concluded agreement, and to move the IS besieged members from the al-Suwayda desert to Eastern Syria. The IS also demanded to release detained members in the Syrian government's prisons in exchange for releasing the kidnapped women.

On July 25, 2018, the IS attacked the city of al-Suwayda and villages east of the al-Suwayda governorate, killing and injuring hundreds of people. During the attack, the IS kidnapped several women and children. Several negotiations to release the kidnapped people failed so far. A kidnapped woman died in detention, as the IS executed a kidnapped young man.
