Hama - SMART

On Tuesday night, the detainees of the Hama Central Prison went on a strike to express their discontentment. The detainees were not tried in court before their imprisonment.

A detainee from the prison reported that the Syrian government forces used tear gas, making it hard to breathe while also causing fires. The detainee added, "They threatened saying that they will use live bullets if we did not end the strike."

The detainee also said that the detainees ended the strike, fearing the Syrian government forces' threats.

Detainees in the Syrian government's prisons face difficulties in making phone calls, especially after the Syrian government forces started using obfuscation devices to make it hard for the detainees to transmit their situation to media.

In May 2016, the detainees launched several strikes and protests in the Hama Central Prison. During the protests, the detainees locked Syrian government forces' officers and members in, demanding the cancellation of the execution sentences of several detainees.
