Deir al-Zor - SMART

Civilians and patients suffer after the Islamic State (IS) seized a medical center in the IS-controlled town of al-Sha'afah, east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

On Wednesday, local sources reported that the civilians suffer from a lack of medical care, as the IS has seized the medical center of the al-Sha'fah a few days earlier and made the center explosive for treating IS injured members.

The sources added that center provided services for the al-Sha'fah residents and the residents of al-Kashmah and al-Susah. Earlier bombings forced several medical centers to shot down and destroyed the Boubadran medical center, forcing doctors to exit the IS-controlled areas.

The sources said that the Syrian Red Crescent used to own this medical center before the IS seized the area. After the IS seized the area, the center lacked support, especially children's vaccination.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the International Coalition, led by the United States, started a battle against the IS to regain control of towns east of Deir al-Zor, including al-Sha'fah. The battle forced several civilians to flee via rough and dangerous paths.
