Report: Russia kills 6,239 civilians in Syria

On Sunday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that Russian troops have killed 6,239 civilians, including 1,804 children, in Syria since the start of the Russian intervention on September 30, 2015.

The SNHR report added that Russian troops killed 3,734 civilians, including 1,025 children, in the first year of the intervention; however, the victims numbers decreased to 1,547 civilians, including 437 children, in the second year. The Russian troops killed 958 civilians, including 342 children, in the third year.

The SNHR added that the Russian troops committed 321 massacres in three years. The Russian troops committed 172 massacres in the first year, 90 massacres in the second year, and 59 massacres in the third year.

The SNHR report noted that Russian warplanes bombed 954 service centers in Syria, including 166 medical facilities, 176 schools, and 55 markets.

The SNHR added that Russian warplanes bombed 77 medical facilities, 74 schools, and 35 markets in the first year of intervention, 65 schools, 54 medical facilities, and 12 markets in the second year, and 33 medical clinics, 34 schools, and eight markets in the third year.

The SNHR report documented the killing of 92 medical staff and Civil Defense members, and the killing of 12 media activists and injury of 60 others. Russian warplanes launched 232 airstrikes using missiles and cluster bombs and 125 airstrikes using incendiary missiles. The Russian bombings have displaced 2.7 million civilians.

Russia has been supporting the Syrian government in the political and military fields since September 30, 2018, and subsequently vetoed 11 resolutions to condemn the Syrian government in the United Nations Security Council. Russian warplanes have launched tens of thousands of airstrikes, killing and injuring thousands of civilians, and displacing hundreds of thousands of others, amid international condemnation.
