Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Wednesday, a car bomb explosion killed five members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and wounded two civilians in the city of Granij, 90 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

The SDF is comprised of predominantly Kurdish multi-ethnic, Arab, and Assyrian/Syriac militias led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units. The SDF operate mostly in Northern Syria, including al-Raqqa and Deir al- Zor.

Local sources told SMART that a car bomb exploded west of  Granij city on the road to al-Haiyahi. The car exploded while  SDF Hilux car was passing in front of a taxi, killing five SDF members and wounding several others and two civilians.

Activists said that there were American soldiers in the SDF car, but SMART is unable to confirm the accuracy of the information.

On Sept. 22, suspected car bomb explosion killed three SDF members and wounded seven others when SDF car passed in the Maadan district in the city of Granij.

The SDF continues to clash with the IS in the region. The IS is suspected of responsibility for some explosions. 44 members of the two sides were killed during the military operations of al-Jazeera Storm in the region last Monday.
