Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Saturday, the Syrian government forces detained civilians returning to their houses in the Syrian government forces-controlled city of Deir al-Zor, amidst strict security procedures at checkpoints.

Local sources reported that the Syrian government forces and security services detained civilians at checkpoints established on the roads leading to Deir al-Zor. The Syrian government forces sent some of the detainees to Syrian government prisons in Damascus, and the military security kept others in Deir al-Zor.

The sources added that the Syrian government forces searched civilians' luggage and cars using special devices, especially at the security service checkpoints, which are located at the entrance of the city to search people returning from al-Raqqa. The sources also said that the Syrian government air force security checkpoints of al-Panorama imposed strict procedures on people returning from Damascus.

The sources also said that the Syrian government checkpoints forced bus drivers to pay fees to enter the city of Deir al-Zor.

Earlier, the people of Deir al-Zor complained about the checkpoints controlled by the militias loyal to the Syrian government, which are located between the cities in the Deir al-Zor governorate. The militias forced people to pay fees and frequently detained civilians.
