Aleppo - SMART

Civil Defense teams extinguish dozens of wildfires in forests and farmlands in the Afrin area, 42 kilometers north of Aleppo city, Northern Syria.

Ibrahim Abu al-Layth, a member of the local Civil Defense media office, told SMART that Civil Defense teams extinguished about 40 fires from different sources in forests and farmlands in the Afrin area. Abu al-Layth said that gunshots, cigarettes, and flammable materials caused most of the flames, which are hard to extinguish due to the lack of proper equipment.

Abu al-Layth also said that there are no accurate maps of the area of the wildfires, but they did not cause casualties among civilians, adding that the Civil Defense teams always warn people against the danger of fires and the need to avoid them.

The fires that started in the forests and farmlands in the Afrin area burned down dozens of acres. The Civil Defense extinguished fires in the forests near the village of Qurat Taqlaq and the village of Haj Hasnah in the al-Shaykh Hadid area, Western Afrin. Several other fires burned down around 4,900 trees in the village of Soghankah in the Sharan area.
