Idlib - SMART

On Wednesday, a Jaysh al-Ahrar commander survived an assassination attempt in the city of Saraqib in Eastern Idlib, Northern Syria.

Activists reported that an explosive device planted by unknown persons exploded in the car of commander Hakam Abu Munir. The explosion injured the commander with minor injuries, and he was transported to a nearby medical center.

The activists added that the explosion happened in the Tal al-Ruman neighborhood, and the identity of the person who planted the device remains unknown.

Earlier, unknown shooters killed the Ahrar al-Sham deputy commander in chief after the Fajr prayer in the village of Jubas.

The Jaysh al-Ahrar defected from the Ahrar al-Sham Islamist Movement in November 2016 after internal disagreements. The Jaysh al-Ahrar joined the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the former commander of the Jaysh al-Ahrar, Abu Jaber al-Sheikh, later became the HTS commander before he defected on Sept. 14, 2017, and joined the National Liberation Front.
