Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Wednesday, the Syrian government forces sent military reinforcements to the al-Suwayda governorate, Southern Syria. Most of the reinforcements headed to the al-Suwayda steppe.

Local sources reported that dozens of vehicles and Syrian government forces arrived in al-Suwayda in groups. The sources added that most of the members and vehicles headed to the steppe in which clashes continue to wage against the Islamic State (IS).

Activists reported that the reinforcements came from the Daraa and Damascus governorates. The activists noted that the reinforcements included members of the Fourth Division of the Syrian government forces, and the Rijal al-Nimr forces. The activists added that some of the reinforcements remained in al-Suwayda.

On Tuesday, the Syrian government forces established concrete barriers on the perimeter of the governorate and police leadership in the city of al-Suwayda.

Clashes between the Syrian government forces and IS have been waging for two months in the Tolol al-Safa area in Eastern al-Suwayda, killing and injuring members on both sides. The IS still holds the women they kidnapped in a sudden attack on al-Suwayda in July, 2018.
