Homs - SMART

On Thursday, two sources from the al-Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian border confirmed that the Jaysh Ahrar al-Ashaiyer of the Free Syrian Army wounded a civilian while shooting at a demonstration that demanded the lifting of siege on the camp.

The nurse at the Sham Medical Center in the camp, Ruba al-Homsi, said that the Ahrar al-Ashaiyer commander, Abu Majid al-Khalidi, opened fire on the demonstration on Wednesday, wounding a man whose condition is stable now.

Al-Homsi added, "Other men were injured with minor injuries as a result of the attacks."

A local activist in the camp, who asked to remain anonymous for security reasons, said that Ahrar al-Ashaiyer fighters picked a fight with the demonstrators and started shooting at them. The activist accused the faction of trying to block any movement in the camp happening without its coordination.

The demonstrators demanded the lifting of the siege imposed by the Syrian government forces, and to allow the entry of food and medical supplies.

The al-Rukban camp is home to thousands of forcibly displaced people who suffer from a lack of livelihood and deteriorating healthcare and education. Many died in the camp due to the lack of medical care. Ealier this week, two children died in the camp.
