Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Sunday, the Syrian government forces and former Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters launched a new attack on Islamic State (IS) locations in the eastern al-Suwayda governorate, Southern Syria.

A military source reported that the Syrian Government 15th Brigade, 1st Brigade, and former FSA fighters who reached reconciliation agreements with the Syrian government in the Daraa governorate participated in the attack.

The source added that counter to previous plans where each group would attack separately, the attack started from several locations in the desert, aiming to seize control of the Tulul al-Safa area.

Ten days ago, the Syrian government forces moved the former opposition group of the Shabab al-Sunnah Forces in the Daraa governorate to the northeastern parts of the al-Suwayda governorate to fight the IS.

The Syrian government forces and opposition factions clash with members of the IS in the eastern al-Suwayda countryside during attempts from both sides to advance and seize new locations.

Recently, Russia, on behalf of the Syrian government forces, reached reconciliation agreements with the FSA in Daraa, after those who refused to sign the agreements were deported to Northern Syria.
