On Sunday, the Initial Response Team (IRT) of the al-Raqqa Civil Council removed bodies from a mass grave in the al-Banourama area in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

The medical examination office of the IRT said that they removed ten bodies, one of which belonged to a woman, from the al-Banourama mass grave in southern al-Raqqa. The IRT identified two of the bodies, returned them to their families IRT, and buried the rest in the Tal al-Bai’a cemetery (al-Shuhadaa) in eastern al-Raqqa.

On Saturday, the IRT removed eight bodies from the al-Banourama mass grave and three bodies from beneath the rubble in the al-Thukna neighborhood.

The IRT removes bodies from mass graves in al-Raqqa on a daily basis. In late August, 2018, the head of the Reconstruction Committee of the Civil Society, Ibrahim al-Hassan, said that they have retrieved 2,147 bodies since Jan. 8, 2018.
