Landmine explosion kills and injures Guardians of Religion members in Latakia

On Tuesday, a landmine exploded near members of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Guardians of Religion Organization in the Northern Latakia governorate, Northwestern Syria.

A local source reported that a landmine exploded when the Guardians of Religion members were scouting Syrian government forces locations near the village of Kabani in the Akrad Mountain in Northern Latakia. The explosion killed a Guardians of Religion commander and injured two fighters.

The Guardians of Religion was formed under the leadership of Abu Humam al-Shami in February, 2018, from several factions affiliated with al-Qaeda, and operates in the governorates of Idlib and Latakia. The factions that joined the Guardians of Religion are the Jaysh al-Badiah, the Jaysh al-Sahel, the Kabul Company, the al-Sahel Company, the Jaysh al-Malahem, and the Jund al-Sharia.
