On Saturday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) broadcasted a video of a colonel of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. In the video, the colonel appealed on Iran and on the Quds Force commander, Qasem Suleimani, to release him, according to the HTS translation of the colonel speech.

The colonel said that his name is Abu al-Hasan al-Bayati and he has served in the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for 29 years, adding that the HTS now detains him. The HTS said that it detained al-Bayati during battles in the Southern Aleppo countryside on June 12, 2016.

In the video, the detained colonel appealed on the Iranian government to release him, saying that he suffered due to his injuries. The colonel also called on all Iranians, especially Qasem Suleimani, to release him.

The exact number of Iranian militants fighting alongside the Syrian government forces in different Syrian areas is not known yet. The number is estimated by thousands, as hundreds of them were killed in Syria, including a commander from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
