Al-Hasakah - SMART

Syrian government forces arrest a teacher in the city of Qamishli, 82 kilometers northeast of al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, on charges of evading his assignment in schools belonging to the Syrian government and working in schools of the Autonomous Administration.

On Thursday, a source from the teacher's family, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, reported that on Wednesday, the Syrian government forces arrested the teacher at a checkpoint in the Security Compound in Qamishli. The source noted that they will ask the Education Committee belonging to the Autonomous Administration to intervene to release the teacher.

In early July 2018, the Syrian government forces arrested four foreign doctors working with the Doctors Without Borders in Qamishli. The Syrian government forces also arrested Ali Omri, the general secretary of the National Movement for Peaceful Change in Qamishli.

The Syrian Democratic Forces control most of the al-Hasakah governorate; however, the Syrian government controls neighborhoods in the cities of al-Hasakah and Qamishli.
