Idlib - SMART

Representatives of the Free Idlib Educational Directorate met with teachers in the city of Saraqib in Eastern Idlib, Northern Syria, to solve a problem related to teaching the Syrian government curriculum in the city's schools.

On Sunday, the teacher Obaida al-Sheikh Dib said that the meeting aimed to solve the problem between the teachers and the Educational Directorate after the latter insisted on teaching the Syrian Interim Government curriculum despite an existing Syrian government curriculum.

Al-Sheikh Dib said that the meeting was unsuccessful, as neither group was willing to compromise. The teacher said that the teaching problem will affect the students.

Salma al-Abbas, a lawyer who attended the meeting, complained about the threats from the Syrian Interim Government to fire teachers who refuse to teach the Interim Government curriculum. Al-Abbas requested that the Interim Government establish its own schools and hire teachers to teach its curriculum.

An official source affiliated with the Educational Directorate in Idlib said that more than 70 percent of the governorate's schools teach the Syrian government curriculum, and that the teachers are paid by Syrian government facilities and institutions.

The Syrian government curriculum resembles that of the Interim Government, except for the history and national education books. The Interim Government edited the books to meet the principles of the Syrian Revolution.

Workers in the educational field in the areas outside Syrian government control face several difficulties, such as Syrian government and Russian bombings and the lack of teachers and financial support.
