Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Tuesday, the United States-led International Coalition against the Islamic State (IS) targeted IS locations in the Deir al-Zor governorate, Eastern Syria.

The International Coalition is a military coalition of 73 countries led by the United States, which allegedly restricts its military actions to fighting the Islamic State, but has also killed hundreds of civilians during its bombings on IS-controlled areas.

Local sources reported that US-led International Coalition warplanes targeted a car near the town of al-Bahra, killing an IS suicide bomber.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which cooperate with the International Coalition, stated that the coalition launched 27 air raids on IS locations in the Hajin area, coinciding with clashes between the IS and the SDF on the ground.

The SDF statement mentioned that bombings and clashes killed 49 IS members. The SDF destroyed eight IS buildings, three tunnels, 10 defense lines, a car bomb, and a mortar shelling station.

On Nov. 3, 2018, International Coalition air raids on residential neighborhoods in the city of Hajin killed about 15 people, most of them women and children.

A few days ago, the SDF announced suspending its battles against the IS in the Deir al-Zor governorate temporarily due to Turkish Army attacks on SDF locations. The SDF considers Turkey's attacks a direct support of the IS, as the latter reseized all the locations that the SDF gained during its last military operations.
