Latakia - SMART

The Syrian government forces and the Islamist battalions shell each other in Northern Latakia, Western Syria, and in the Northwestern Hama countryside.

On Sunday, local activists told SMART that the Syrian government forces shelled the Kabana village in Latakia from their positions in al-Jaab al-Ahmar and the Prophet Younis Summit. The local activists added that the Syrian government forces shelled the al-Sarmanya village in the Northwestern Hama countryside from the Jorin base.

The Islamist battalions operations room, which includes the factions Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the Guardians of Religion, and Turkistan Islamic Party, said in a statement that it targeted Syrian government forces position near the al-Sarmanya village with mortars and anti-aircraft 23 mm and 14.5 mm machine guns.

Earlier, the Islamist battalions killed 24 members of the Syrian government forces during an attack on their positions in Northern Latakia, rejecting the Russian-Turkish demilitarization agreement of September 17, 2018.
