Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Tuesday, a group of unknown persons kidnapped a young man in the Ayed Farm area south of the city of al-Tabqah, 43 kilometers west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

A local source reported eyewitnesses saying that a group of armed persons stopped Othman Zakkour as he was returning from work as a teacher in the Ayed Farm area, forcing him to mount a vehicle that transported him to an unknown location.

The source assumed that the kidnappers will demand the young man's relatives to pay a ransom in exchange for his life, adding that the kidnaped man's family did not file an official complaint yet due to fearing for his life.

In November 2018, unknown persons released a man they kidnapped earlier west of the city of al-Raqqa after the man's relatives paid a ransom of eight million Syrian pounds. Earlier, people from Northern al-Raqqa found a body of a young man tortured and shot to death.

Kidnappings, looting incidents, assassinations, and explosions are often taking place in al-Raqqa recently, as unknown persons and the Islamic State targeted Syrian Democratic Forces' members, killing and injuring civilians.
