Deir al-Zor - SMART

Four bodies of the Afghan-backed Fatemiyoun militia arrived at the field hospital in the city of Albukamal, 120 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

On Friday, military sources reported that the militia’s members are foreign, but it is not known whether they are Afghans or Iranians. The Islamic State (IS) killed them in an attack on their site in the village of al-Sayyal in the city of Albukamal on Tuesday.

The sources stated that three other members of the militia were transferred to the hospital in Deir al-Zor, after receiving critical injuries.

In November 2017, the Syrian government forces and its loyalist militias gained control of the Albukamal city after the IS withdrew from it. The Iranian militias robbed former Free Syrian Army fighters in the city and imposed fees on civilians who returned to it.
