SDF clashes with protesters in Eastern Deir al-Zor, killing SDF fighters

On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) clashed with protesters in the village of Zibian, 50 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, killing two civilians, five SDF fighters, and wounding others.

Local sources told SMART that fighters of the SDF shot at protesters in the village came out to demand the release of detainees on charges of belonging to the IS, killing two and wounding 15 other.

The sources added that Unknown shooters attacked a patrol of the SDF during the demonstration and opened fire on it, killing five fighters of them and wounding another.

Local sources told SMART that protesters went out in the villages of Swidan, Ziban, Dranj, and Hawaij, against what they described as arbitrary arrests by SDF against civilians on charges of belonging to the Islamic States.

On Tuesday, demonstrators demanding a share of oil fields clashed with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the village of al-Shuhail, 37 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, killing two SDF fighters and injuring two others. 

Earlier, the SDF arrested hundreds of people in Deir al-Zor on different charges, including affiliating with the IS, smuggling people and trading drugs. The SDF also arrested people for compulsory recruitment. 

The SDF has been controlling al-Shuhail since October 26, 2017,  after they expelled the Islamic States (IS).
