Islamist battalions kill and injure Syrian government forces’ members in Northern Latakia

On Wednesday, Islamist battalions attacked Syrian government forces’ outposts in Northern Latakia, Western Syria, killing and injuring members of the Syrian government forces.

Activists posted on social media saying that the Incite the Believers to Fight Operations Room “ that is formed by Islamist battalions most prominent of them are the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Guards of Religion Faction, and Islamist Turkistani Party, launched the attack. 

The activists added that the attack targeted the Syrian government forces’ outposts in the villages of Nakhshaba al-Hadada, Ruweisat al-Malik, and Ayn al-Qantara in the al-Akrad mountainous area.

The activists did not specify the Syrian government forces’ casualties, noting that an HTS fighter was killed in the attack.

SMART attempts to contact the Islamist battalions to know the casualties of both sides and the reasons behind the attack.

In early December 2018, the Syrian government forces and Islamist battalions exchanged artillery shelling in Northern Latakia and the nearby Northwestern Hama countryside.
