Daraa - SMART

The Syrian government forces arrested ten young men at a checkpoint between the villages of Sahm al-Jolan and Jillin, 26 kilometers north of Daraa, Southern Syria, to send them for compulsory military service, although the young men carried valid settlement papers.

On Thursday, local activists told SMART that the arrest occurred on Wednesday at the al-Rai checkpoint of the Syrian government Military Security.

Members of the Syrian government Air Force Intelligence also arrested two people in the village of Sahm al-Jolan for belonging to the Islamic State.

The Syrian government forces have also arrested more than 20 women in the Daraa governorate since the beginning of December 2018.

In July 2018, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions in Daraa, Southern Syria, reached a final agreement with Russia. The agreement will be applied in the entire Daraa governorate, except its northwestern countryside, and includes a ceasefire and FSA fighters handing over their heavy weapons. The agreement also includes that the fighters who refuse to sign it will be displaced to Northern Syria.
