On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) gained control of the the Islamic state (IS)-controlled village of al-Kashmah and parts of the city of al-Shaafah, 112 kilometers east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

The commander of the SDF Khabat al-Shoayti Regiment told SMART that the regiment gained control of al-Kashmah after violent clashes with the IS on Sunday night. The clashes killed three SDF members and injured eight others. No information about IS casualties was reported.

The commander said that the regiment proceeded toward the city of al-Shaafah, which is one of the most important IS strongholds in the area, in an attempt to gain control of the city. The SDF launched an attack from two directions; the Wadi Hilwah and the al-Kashmah village, gaining control of the al-Shaafah's al-Nafilah, al-Mazraa, and al-Qalaa neighborhoods. The clashes in the city continue.

International Coalition warplanes raided the town of al-Sousah, killing and injuring civilians, and causing vast property destruction.

Earlier, the SDF gained control of the villages of Abu Hassan and al-Baqaan, and parts of the village of al-Kashamah in Eastern Deir al-Zor, after clashes with the IS.

The SDF seeks to expel the IS from its last stronghold in Deir al-Zor, gaining control of the city of Hajin and most of the al-Baghouz al-Tahtani village after clashes that lasted days. The SDF, which now controls the entire Syrian-Iraqi border, confirmed that confronting the IS will not be affected by the United States' decision to withdraw their forces from Syria, especially after the US announced the possibility of attacking the IS from Iraq if needed.
