Aleppo - SMART

On Tuesday, dozens of people demonstrated in the city of al-Atarib, 30 kilometers west of Aleppo, Northern Syria, in support of the Syrian revolution.

About 80 people from al-Atarib and the villages of Kafrnuran and Termanin and forcibly displaced people from the city of Aleppo participated in the demonstration. The demonstrators raised a banner reading, “The three most despicable figures are al-Assad, al-Baghdadi and al-Julani,” about the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) commander, called Abu Muhammad al-Julani and the Islamic State commander called Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The demonstrator Mahmoud Abu al-Majd said that they organized the demonstration by the beginning of the new year to emphasize their adherence to freedom and revolution against the Syrian regime and to condemn the HTS attack on the National Liberation Front (NLF) sites in the city of Dara Azza.

Meanwhile, clashes between the HTS and the NLF were renewed in Western Aleppo, killing and injuring fighters of both sides as well as civilians.

In mid-March 2011, the Syrian revolution started with peaceful demonstrations, which the Syrian government forces fought with repression, live bullets, and large-scale arrests. After months, the peaceful revolution turned into armed one after officers dissented from Syrian government forces. The dissents formed small armed groups under the name of the Free Syrian Army, to which some civilians have joined, to protect demonstrators.
