Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Monday, the Iraqi public mobilization militias entered goods from Syria to traders in Iraq through the closed Syrian border.

Local traders reported that the border is closed between the Syrian city of al-Bukamal and Iraqi city of al-Qaem, but the militias opened the border and entered trucks at a fee of $2,000 per truck and $500 for smaller trucks.

The traders added that the goods were rice, sugar, cereals, grease and pasta. The traders noted that the Syrian trucks unloaded the goods into Iraqi trucks to be transported to al-Qaem.

Pro-Syrian government forces Iraqi militias regularly deploy to the Deir al-Zor governorate, Eastern Syria, especially to the city of al-Bukamal. The militias use civilians' homes as military headquarters and homes for their fighters and families.
