Turkey - SMART

On Tuesday, the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denied that the US forces have a deadline to withdraw from Syria. US officials said that the US forces withdrawal from the al-Tanaf base, Southern Syria, is not on the table now.

US media outlets reported officials in Pentagon as saying that the US forces withdrawal from Syria is dependent on field conditions and there is no specific date for the withdrawal.

Pentagon made its statements as Ibrahim Kalin, the spokesperson for the Turkish presidency, stated that the US informed Turkey that the US forces withdrawal from Syria will take 120 days. Kalin made his statements in a press conference following a meeting between US and Turkish officials.

On Sunday, the US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated that Turkey must agree on protecting the Kurds allied with the US in Northern Syria as a new condition for the US forces withdrawal. Pompeo commented, "(...) the Turks would ensure that the folks that we'd fought with - that assisted us in the counter ISIS campaign - would be protected," which outraged Turkey.

The US al-Hurra channel reported unidentified US officials as saying that Bolton stated that the US forces withdrawal from the al-Tanaf base near the Jordanian border, Southern Syria, is not on the table now.

On Friday, the Maghaweer al-Thawra Army emphasized that their leadership was formally informed of the International Coalition forces' withdrawal from the al-Tanaf base. The Martyr Ahmad al-Abdo Forces operating in the area said that the United Kingdom's forces did not express intention to withdraw from their bases in the area.
