Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Wednesday, two men were killed in separate shootings in the al-Suwayda governorate, Southern Syria.

Local sources reported that the civilian Assad 'Aloom was killed last night when residents and local factions interfered to abort a kidnapping attempt in the al-Dubaisi neighborhood in al-Suwayda. The source added that the kidnappers opened fire, killing 'Aloom.

On Tuesday, Moataz al-Hassan was shot in the head in his house in the town of 'Ara, western al-Suwayda. The Syrian government Criminal Security Branch detained the victim's wife after his family accused her of the murder.

Shootings have killed four people in al-Suwayda so far in 2019, and a young man died after consuming pesticides.

Residents of al-Suwayda complain about the lack of security and spread of weapons amidst the presence of armed local factions and Syrian government forces.
