Al-Akidat tribe forms council in Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria

Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Wednesday, the al-Akidat tribe formed a council for its members in the village of al-Shahail in the Deir al-Zor governorate, Eastern Syria.

Local sources reported that the council is composed of 25 members headed by Sheikh Jamil Hammoud al-Akidi. The sources stated that the formation of the council aims to unify the tribe and support the Deir al-Zor civil council in upholding the security and improve living conditions in the areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The sources also said that the al-Akidat tribe has more than 25 sub-tribes, including the al-Shuaitat, al-Thulth, Albu Hasan, Albu Rahma, and al-Najras sub-tribes. The sources noted that the tribe appointed Hammoud al-Manadi as a judge among the tribes.

On September 24, 2017, the SDF announced the formation of the Deir al-Zor civil council during a meeting in the village of Abu Khashab in northern Deir al-Zor, to manage the governorate after gaining control of it.
