Hama - SMART

The Russian forces establish a new military base in the Tal Salba area south of the Hayalin town, 37 kilometers northwest of Hama, Central Syria.

On Wednesday, local sources and activists reported that two days ago, the Russian forces closed the entrances to the town of Hayalin and began to establish a military base there. They brought in military vehicles and built fortifications in Tal Salba.

The activists added that two days ago, the 2nd Division of the Syrian government forces sent a military convoy from the Hama military airbase to the town of Hayalin and the village of al-Jalmeh. The activists stated that the convoy was made up of more than thirty military vehicles.

Earlier, Russia established several observation bases on the outskirts of the Idlib governorate as part of a de-escalation agreement with Turkey. The observation bases are in Ayn al-Rehaniya, al-Sakilbiya and Maharada in northwestern Hama, and Suran and Abu Dali in northern Hama. Russia also established observation bases in Abu al-Duhur in eastern Idlib and Sheikh Barakat and al-Hader in southern Aleppo.

Although the agreement requires the establishment of a demilitarized zone and a ceasefire, the Syrian government forces repeatedly shell the area included in the agreement, killing and injuring civilians.
