Suqour al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham agree to hand weapons and checkpoints upon agreement with HTS

On Thursday, a source from the National Liberation Front (NLF) revealed secret terms in the agreement between the NLF and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The terms stated that the Suqour al-Sham Brigades and Ahrar al-Sham Islamist Movement hand over their heavy weapons and military checkpoints.

The source added that the Suqour al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham would hand over their heavy weapons to the Dimashq Gathering of the NLF of the Free Syrian Army. The source noted that both factions would hand their checkpoints located on the Aleppo-Damascus and Aleppo- Latakia highways to the al-Sham Legion. The source noted that the HTS would manage the checkpoints after a month.   

The source added that among the secret terms in the agreement are the HTS’ establishing of military headquarters in the city of Maarrat al-Nu’man and Ariha, southern Idlib, Northern Syria, and the deploying of HTS’ Islamic Police instead of the Free Police.

The source said that the Suqour al-Sham would hand military heavy machinery and checkpoints on international roads; however, the Suqour al-Sham will keep checkpoints in their areas. The source stated nothing of the weapons and checkpoints that the Ahrar al-Sham will hand.

The source noted that the Suqour al-Sham kept their fighters in 24 outposts on the frontline with the Syrian government forces in Northern Syria. The fighters did not participate in the infight against the HTS.

Earlier on Thursday, the HTS and NLF reached an agreement to stop clashes in Northern Syria and to subject the area to the Salvation Government, which caused the Free Police to suspend work until further notice.

The agreement followed days of clashes between the NLF and HTS. During the clashes, the HTS controlled the entire western Aleppo countryside and villages and towns in Hama and Idlib. The clashes killed fighters of both sides and civilians.
