Aleppo - SMART

On Friday, the general national security and police forces in the al-Rai area, 45 kilometers northeast of Aleppo, Northern Syria, announced firing the town’s police commander without mentioning the reasons.

The security and police forces stated that they relieved major Firas al-Sheikh Muhammad from his duties and appointed Alaa al-Din Naasan. The statement did not mention the reasons for firing al-Sheikh Muhammad.

Activists reported that al-Sheikh Muhammad is accused of corruption, embezzlements, and receiving bribes in exchange for releasing prisoners in the prison he used to run.

On Aug. 28, 2018, Turkish officers arrest five Free Syrian Army military police officers and several Turkish soldiers in the Afrin area for investigation. The arrested officers were accused of corruption and receiving bribes.

The Turkish-backed national general security and police forces operate in cities and towns of the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch areas in northern Aleppo. The forces are working on ensuring security and preventing breaches in these areas.
